The city of Austin   has so much to offer whether you are interested in the arts, music, sports or the outdoors.  Austin is the State Capital of Texas, and is one of the 20 largest cities in the U.S., with a population of nearly 600,000 people. It's also one of fastest-growing North American cities.  Austin is a very liberal place; some say it's like a scaled-down version of San Francisco. It's unlike the rest of Texas, which is very conservative; in fact, compared to the rest of the state, Austin is very un-Texas-like, and ironically coming to Austin is kind of like leaving the state.

Austin averages 300 days of sunshine each year and about 33.78 inches of rainfall. It rarely snows in Austin.  Temperatures in the summer can reach 100+ but our winters are typically mild.

Austin is known as the live music capital of the world.  This is the home of Austin City Limits and the South by Southwest music festival.  Since 1987, SXSW has been one of the premier internationally recognized music and media conferences and festivals in the world.  Austin has also been home to the very famous Austin City Limits since 1976.  We also have the Austin City Limits Music Festival.  This three day long event has eight stages and over 130 bands!

The University of Texas is one of the largest public universities in the United States with over 50,000 students.  As you might have heard, our football team was the 2006 National Champions!  The Longhorns always have fantastic football, basketball and baseball teams.

Do you like the water? Lake Travis is the gem of the Texas Hill Country.  Boating, water skiing, fishing and scuba diving are great on LakeTravis.  We also have a number of excellent parks for hiking, rock climbing and mountain biking.  Just a short drive away we have some fabulous caverns, more lakes and great parks.

What else is there to do outside?   Do you like walking, running or biking?  The 10 mile Town Lake Hike & Bike Trail is a downtown area favorite.  For a bit more adventure, try the Barton Creek Greenbelt Hike and Bike Trail.  There is so much more, all I can do is invite you to look for other fun things to do in Austin.
